The Australian ICT industry achieved outstanding success at the APICTA Awards held in Thailand last week. Australia attained its best result in the history of the international technology innovation awards thus far, winning three categories outright and three merit awards.

"Australian ingenuity and innovative use of advanced technologies were ably demonstrated by the performance of Australian ICT firms competing in the APICTA awards – their success demonstrates just how competitive we can and must be in the international business environment,” commented Wayne Fitzsimmons, Chairman of the Pearcey Foundation following the announcements.

Winners of the prestigious iAwards were eligible to compete with nominees from across the Asia Pacific region at the 2011 Asia Pacific ICT Alliance Awards organised by The Association of Thai ICT Industry and supported by The Software Industry Promotion Agency (SIPA) which were held in Pattaya, Thailand from Tuesday 8 to Friday 11 November 2011.

"Great ideas are never enough. What we are seeing is real innovation backed by strong implementation being taken directly into commercial markets. That is how Australia will capitalise on the opportunities on offer in the new global economy and it is truly exciting to see these companies in action," said AIIA CEO Suzanne Campbell.

ACS CEO Alan Patterson said, "The iAwards and APICTA are an integral part of encouraging success and development in the technology arena. We would like to congratulate all entrants, in particular those from Australia. This recognition of Australian ICT work in a highly competitive Asia Pacific region is a truly great achievement. It demonstrates the significance of our nation as an advanced ICT player, both regionally and globally.”
