ICT Careers - Your Future

As part of National ICT Careers Week, ACS Queensland will host a careers night. Come and hear what companies look for when hiring and the opportunities for students, graduates and young professionals. There will be information on graduate hiring programs and career tips from experts in the ICT industry, government and recruitment industries - find out how you can be successful in securing the job you want. There will be an opportunities to ask questions and network while light refreshments are served.

Bond University

Robina State High School and Hillcrest Christian College IT students will visit Bond University on 31 July to learn about the strong demand for and diverse careers available to IT graduates. A presentation and demonstration will also be given by Robert Bannerman, Business Development Manager for Microsoft in Washington, USA. Students will also tour the new Multimedia Learning Centre, which has a technology-rich learning space and collaboration-friendly study spaces equipped with the latest audio-visual and computer technology.

Bond University will be an exhibitor at the upcoming ICT and Careers Expo in Melbourne that aims to give Victorian students and industry groups a better understanding of the career options available in IT today.  Bond University staff will answer your questions about study programs, career outcomes and life at Bond University.

Members of the Mackay IT Network will provide advice to high school students within the Mackay region regarding the career and education opportunities within the ICT industry. Queensland University of Technology Faculty of Information Technology

Faculty of Information Technology Annual Teachers' Luncheon - media welcome

Each year the Faculty of Information Technology at QUT hosts a luncheon bringing together high school teachers, business people and academics to talk about the status of the IT industry, trends in studies in high schools and universities, and job prospects for students in the years to come.

The luncheon will include a keynote speaker, question time and networking opportunities for all participants.

St Aidan's Anglican Girls' School, Corinda

Thursday 31 July
Jenine Beekhuyzen, co-editor of Tech Girls are Chic (Not Just Geek!), will be speaking about the contribution that women make in the IT industry.  She will be answering questions and giving away copies of her book, which profiles 16 women who are making an impact in a diverse range of ICT-related fields. Jenine’s visit and National ICT Careers Week coincide with the school’s annual Futures Conference for Year 10 girls, which focuses on career guidance.

ThoughtWorks

National launch of GirlsInIT.com.au

Monday 28 July

ThoughtWorks is launching www.GirlsInIT.com.au to coincide with National ICT Careers week. This website is for  careers advisors and parents to find out more about what a career in technology could be like for 12-16-year-old girls. ThoughtWorks will host information evenings in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney for girls to meet some of the amazing women who work in IT and hear their stories first-hand.
