Guest speaker in Multimedia Victoria's Go Girl - Go For IT
Travel the world with ICT
28 and 29 October 2008
As an ICT professional, I have had the opportunity to travel the
globe, working in various industries. It has taken me to London, Europe,
India, America and New Zealand. Over 20 minutes, this presentation will
provide an overview of the variety of roles that young vibrant people can pursue, showing that ICT career paths do not necessarily need to be technical or geeky. This
is an insight into the world of ICT, in particular, project management, business analysis, consulting and testing.
The key to success for accuteque is to have highly skilled, passionate members of our team who want to make a difference in the ICT industry. As a result, we actively recruit graduates. Having a young and enthusiastic team gives us the energy needed to perform the role of quality assurance and testing consultants.

I'm InFORmatics: Turning raw data into useful information
An interactive workshop in Informatics for Years 10-12
5:15-6:15pm 31 July 2008
Theatre 1, UniMelb ICT Building, 111 Barry Street, Carlton
The world is awash with information. In the last 5 years we've produced and recorded more information than in the previous 50,000 years, and almost all of this new information is digital. Informatics is about using computers to work with digital information - gathering, using, storing, retrieving, and visualising information and data. It's the study of tools and technologies to solve problems in all types of settings, like finance and economics, journalism, biology, health, engineering, communication. In this master class you will participate in a computer programming workshop and get hands-on experience of what it is like to study informatics. See how the latest technology can be used to analyse everything from climate trends to data from social networking sites such as Facebook. No previous programming experience is required - we will teach you the necessary skills during the class. You will leave the class with sufficient knowledge to write programs to solve interesting problems on your own, allowing you to turn raw data into useful information.

From study to workplace: an ICT pathway for girls - media welcome
2 August 2008
For most ICT employees the pathway into a job in the ICT industry is through education. The options for study are numerous, from studying ICT from a business perspective to very technical degrees. The question is, where do each of these lead, and what will the workplace job be about? What will you be doing?! Often students enter a graduate program where they work in a number of different areas experiencing a range of ICT roles. From there the opportunities are many. Our panel will tallk about the pathways, beginning with the study options and then jobs these degrees might lead to. This will be followed by what it is like to start work and finally where your career might take you. At the end of the panel presentations there will be time for questions Julie Fisher, Associate Professor in the School of Information Management and Systems at Monash University, and Michelle Beveridge, CIO of IDP Australia, will lead the panel, along with current students and graduate program participants.
