Every day, half a million Australians are engaged in the development and deployment of leading edge technological innovations, improving the lives of people in Australia and around the globe.

Every one of these ICT workers has a vitally important role to play in driving productivity, job growth, social advancement and economic prosperity through the enabling power of ICT.

Nevertheless, a few have made truly outstanding contributions in a field where high performance is commonplace.

The annual CSIRO Tony Benson Award for Individual Achievement in ICT recognises one person whose achievements have helped to shape the Australian ICT industry and demonstrated the difference that one person can make.

The CSIRO Tony Benson Award commemorates the work and dedication of long-term champion of the Australian ICT industry, Tony Benson, who died in February 2005. An industry stalwart for more than 40 years, Tony set an outstanding example of selfless contribution to Australian ICT industry development.
