Nominee for 2008 Board of Directors

Craig Baty, GVP - Frost & Sullivan

Professional biography:

Craig Baty is GVP for Frost & Sullivan’s IT practice. In addition to driving the practice, Craig’s personal focus is on consulting around growth strategies for ICT providers in general, with a specific focus on Asian and other international market trends. In Asia Pacific/Japan, he provides executive level coaching, consultancy and strategic advice/guidance to vendor CEOs and executives of many organisations.

Craig has held executive level positions in Gartner AP/J, BT and Fujitsu Aust./Japan and has served on the boards of four organisations in Australia and overseas including The Boys' Brigade Australia, Gartner Japan, and Gartner International.

Craig holds an MBA in International Business/Mktg. (SGSM), is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management, and is currently pursuing an IT focused Doctor of Business Administration. Craig is in high demand as a speaker at conferences around the globe and is regularly quoted by the regional business and IT media, including appearances on CNN, CNBC and ABC Radio. He is also an active member of the AIIA NSW Committee, regular chair or speaker at the AIIA Marketing Forum, and Chair of the NSW Exporters Club.

Reasons for nominating and qualities brought to the board:

This is my 30th year in IT and I feel that it is time that I gave something back to this young and vibrant industry at a national level. I’ve been a member of the NSW AIIA committee for two years, and have been actively involved in Government lobbying, and AIIA events including chairing and speaking at the AIIA Marketing Forum on many occasions, Chairing the NSW Exporters Club, and as a member of the AIIA National Marketing Committee.

As an adviser to many technology and service provider executives globally and in my role as GVP for Frost and Sullivan’s IT practice, and prior executive roles in Gartner, I have a very broad and deep understanding of the issues facing the vendor community across Australia and Asia/Pacific in general. It is clear to me that there is a deep divide between what the users of technology seek from their ICT providers and what the providers of technology can actually offer.

If elected to an AIIA board position I intend to leverage the other resources available to me through Frost & Sullivan’s global research resource base to increase the professionalism and effectiveness of Australian IT Marketing and Sales executives, and assist in developing better relationship between ICT providers and their customers. I also believe that the value of the ICT industry itself is generally unappreciated by Governments and the general community, and would apply myself to help AIIA in its mission to promote the IT industry in general.
