AIIA is working closely with the Federal Government to support the implementation of the Gershon recommendations. The Association provides proposed approaches and suggestions to the Australian Government Information Management Office (AGIMO) as well as responding to specific requests from AGIMO.
AIIA's goal is to assist the Federal Government successfully implement these major changes to Government ICT in a way that is sensitive to the current and future needs of all affected sectors of the ICT industry. AIIA's high-level objectives from its involvement in the Gershon implementation are set out in this document.
To enable as broad a cross-section as possible of AIIA members to collaborate on the development of AIIA’s representation of industry’s views to Government, AIIA has established a wiki facility for its Gershon engagement team: AIIA's Gershon Engagement Wiki.
The Wiki is segmented to mirror the structure of AIIA’s Gershon Engagement Team Focus Groups:
- The SME Impact Focus Group - which considers the impact on SMEs of the entire Gershon implementation program.
- The Governance Focus Group - dealing with pan-government and agency governance issues (recommendation categories 1 and 2).
- The ICT Efficiency/Effectiveness Focus Group - this responds to the Gershon recommendations in respect of tightening Agency ICT BAU (recommendation category 3) and improved efficiency of the ICT marketplace (recommendation
category 6). - The APS Skills Base Focus Group - addresses the enhancement of agencies’ ICT skills base (recommendation
category 4). - The Infrastructure Focus Group - with an initial focus on the Whole-of-Government data centre approach (recommendation category 5).
- The ICT Sustainability Focus Group - Green ICT and environmental issues (recommendation category 7).
