CSIRO Tony Benson Award

The Tony Benson Award for Individual Achievement in ICT recognises the outstanding accomplishments and exceptional achievements of an individual in the Australian ICT industry.

  • The contribution can be a single high-impact initiative or a long series of successes
  • The recipient need not be an Australian citizen
  • The achievement or contribution may be in research, the application of research, commercialisation, business or any field that, in the opinion of the selection panel, has delivered substantial benefit to the Australian ICT industry
  • Nominees for the award are assessed against a stringent set of criteria by a panel of VIP judges from the ICT industry, government, research and educational institutions, and the ICT media in Australia.
  • Separate nomination and judging process

Victorian Government Inspiration Award

The Inspiration Award is presented to the ‘best of the best’ ICT innovation.

  • All iAward category winners will be considered for this award.

IBW ICT Exporter of the Year

The ICT Exporter of the Year Award is awarded to an ICT company that has achieved outstanding success in developing, marketing and exporting their products internationally. They are able to demonstrate key aspects of their export success, such as the number of countries they export to, the value of their export sales, time/duration and projected value.

  • All iAwards category winners will be considered for this award.

ZDNet Community Award

The Community Award is presented to the most innovative ICT project in the area of corporate social responsibility. Nominations of finalists covering the areas of:

  • community partnerships
  • environmental excellence, including energy efficiency, waste reduction, sustainable business practices and water conservation
  • diversity
  • digital divide

will be considered for this award.

  • All finalists for all iAward categories will be considered for this award.

Howorth Start-up Company Award

The Start-up Company Award is awarded to an ICT company that develops an innovative ICT product while the company itself is still considered new. The company must meet the following criteria to be eligible for this award:

  • The company must be a registered company
  • The company registration must be less than 3 years old at the time of the iAwards competition
  • The founder of the company or the product developers must still be the major shareholders of the company
  • The company must not be a subsidiary of a well-established parent company
  • The company must not have received substantial venture capital funding or private investment, but be mainly funded by its founders.
  • All iAward category winners will be considered for this award.

 


Fujitsu Applications and Infrastructure Tools iAward

This award is presented to the most innovative development of applications and infrastructure tools.

Any software program that operates hardware, increases the efficiency of systems, measures and/or monitor systems usage and performance, or programs that provide for data access/retrieval, data manipulation (eg, sort/merge), data management, data warehousing and program design/development. It includes all database management systems (DBMS), decision-support and executive information systems (EIS), spreadsheets, front-end and back-end CASE tools, and emerging areas like cooperative processing and object management application development tools.

Spruson & Ferguson Communications Applications iAward


This award is presented to the most outstanding communications technologies or for ICT solutions that make creative use of communications technologies.

Any application of software or hardware that is related to the transmission of signs, signals, writing, images, sounds, voice, video, data or intelligence of any nature by digital or analog, electromagnetic or electronic signals through existing and emerging media (eg, radio, telephone, television, facsimile, SMS, MMS, GPRS, Internet, WiFi, WiMax), including mobility and mobile applications.

Australian Computer Society E-Government and Services iAward


This award is presented to the most innovative ICT solutions that support electronic government initiatives and service delivery to the community.

Any application of software or hardware that enables transformation of internal and external government processes toward customer-centricity, providing service delivery opportunities to better fulfill the purposes of government to provide efficiency and effectiveness, as well as fairness and equity.

Microsoft e-Health iAward


This award is presented to the most innovative ICT solution for the healthcare sector.

Any application of software or hardware that is for the use of individuals or communities to promote, maintain, monitor or restore health. Included are systems for hospitals, clinics, health resorts, etc.

  • At APICTA, e-Health winners must compete in the General Applications category as there is no international healthcare category.

This award is presented to the most innovative software or hardware that supports and enables the process of planning, implementing and controlling the efficient, effective flow and storage of goods, services and related information from the point of origin to the point of consumption in order to meet customers’ requirements.

Cliftons Education and Training iAward


This award is presented to the most innovative ICT solutions for the delivery of education and training.

Any application of software or hardware to develop, administer, and support the training, general knowledge, academic, technical, vocational skills and cultural attainments of individuals. The programs covered are those used in schools, preschool, and child care centres, colleges, universities, teaching and learning institutions, educational radio and television stations, libraries, enterprises, museums, etc.

MIS Financial Applications iAward


This award is presented to the most innovative ICT solution that supports the financial sector or finance-related business processes in an enterprise.

Any application of software or hardware that is related to the process of transferring and managing capital or funds, or monetary-related entities within or across an enterprise. Applications for the banking, insurance, stock exchange and multi-finance industries.

ZDNet General Applications iAward


This award is presented to the most innovative ICT solution that supports non-finance-related business processes in an enterprise.

Any application of software or hardware to support a range of functions that are commonly used by an enterprise or business entity to improve efficiency and productivity. Included in this category are back office applications, office productivity tools, human resource information systems, administration tools, procurement systems, customer relationship management systems, etc.

Strategic Path Industrial Applications iAward


This award is presented to the most innovative ICT solution that supports the industrial sector, including manufacturing processes.

Any application of software or hardware that is used by industrial industries to help them increase the performance of creating products and services, to improve efficiency and productivity. Some examples are computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM), optimisation devices and systems, process effectiveness monitoring tools, industrial applications for oil and gas, etc.

Cubed Communications Media and Entertainment iAward


This award is presented to the most innovative creative content development for the media or entertainment industries.

Any application of software or hardware that is related to the process of combining text, sound, pictures, and videos, for the provision of information or entertainment. Such applications include multimedia, infotainment, immersive and interactive software, games, etc.


IBM Research and Development iAward


This award is presented to the most outstanding ICT research and development project.

Any ICT creation arising from the practical application of scientific, engineering or management knowledge that results in new and improved products, processes or services. The product must not be commercialised yet.

KPMG Secondary Student Project iAward


This award is presented to the most innovative ICT project from secondary school students.

IBSA Security Applications iAward


This award is presented to the most innovative ICT solution for security systems.

Any application of software or hardware that is related to authentication, encryption, intruder detection, anti-virus, data or system protection.

Callista Tertiary Student Project iAward


This award is presented to the most innovative ICT project from tertiary school students, such as TAFE or university, but excluding Master and Doctorate programs.
