The Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) today launched Australia’s most comprehensive resource on developing environmentally responsible business practices through Green technology programs - the Greening Your Business through Technology eBook.
The Greening Your Business through Technology eBook is available for download free of charge to all Australian companies at www.aiia.com.au/greenit. Recognising the need to inform Australian organisations about GreenIT practices, the vision for the Greening Your Business through Technology eBook was conceived by AIIA’s Sustainability Team, who worked closely with Multimedia Victoria to commission the study.
“The GreenIT eBook is designed to give Australian business managers the information they need to make informed technology decisions that will create more environmentally-friendly business practices, lower the carbon footprint of their organisation, reduce energy consumption and overheads and deliver their brand into the low-carbon marketplace,” said AIIA CEO Ian Birks.
While the ICT industry contributes around two percent of carbon emissions world-wide, it will be a driving force in tackling the 98 percent generated by other sectors of the economy.
“The real value of ICT in addressing current environmental challenges is the potential for significant impact across the entire world economy,” said Mr Birks. “A recent WWF study identified the opportunity for the strategic application of ICT to yield a 1 billion ton reduction in CO2 emissions around the globe by 2020.”
“ICT will make a critical contribution to the way all business is able to create more efficient and environmentally responsible operations,” Mr Birks continued. “The GreenIT eBook has been developed to provide decision-makers with a practical and accessible guide to realising those benefits in their own company.”
Greening Your Business through Technology is divided into three distinct sections that cover a wide range of sustainability topics, from the fundamentals through to detailed analysis and long-term strategies, a stand-alone set of case studies and an appendix for ongoing research and further information.
“AIIA’s GreenIT eBook provides a specific focus on current best practice and practical implementation strategies for SMEs,” said AIIA’s National GreenIT Taskforce Director Bob Hayward.
