Asia Pacific Digital Innovation Summit launches in Melbourne

Wednesday 16 December, 2009

Today’s launch of the Asia Pacific Digital Innovation Summit sees 500 international delegates from 25 Asia Pacific economies join leading technology companies and experts from across the Australian ICT industry for the most significant ICT trade, export and industry analysis program in the regional economy.

As a vibrant hub of Australian ICT, Victoria will host Asia Pacific’s leading digital economies for two days at Palladium, Crown.

Minister for Industry and Trade Martin Pakula said that the Victorian Government was pleased to host the key ICT industry event which includes the ASOCIO ICT Summit and the APICTA Awards.

“APDIS has presented a terrific opportunity to bring together two key themes central to our long-term economic development – closer engagement with Asia and a thriving ICT sector,” said Mr Pakula.

APDIS delegates range from international governments to ICT industry leaders, start-up companies, multinational corporations and peak bodies from across the region – providing access for Australian companies to an unprecedented mix of potential partners, publicity and clients in their own backyard.

The Summit combines a number of the most important fixtures on the National and International ICT calendar, including the Sustainable Futures Forum, the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Awards and the Asian-Oceanian Computer Industry Organization (ASOCIO) General Assembly.

APDIS will also see the launch of KPMG India's latest thought leadership report Asia-Oceania Vision 2020: Enabling IT leadership through collaboration.

By 2020, the Asia-Oceania region is expected to move to a higher growth trajectory, facilitated in large part by the ICT industry. APDIS will focus on strategic topics identified by the report as essential to the growth of Asia Pacific economies into the future at the Asia Pacific ICT conference: eGovernance, Workforce and Skills, ITES-BPO, Green IT and Convergence.

The ASOCIO 2020 analysis identifies collaboration as a vital component of regional growth, delivering opportunities that far exceed the potential of working in isolation. With over 500 international delegates converging on Victoria, the Summit also delivers significant export, trade and business partnership opportunities to the doorstep of the Australian ICT industry.

December 17 will be International Trade Day at APDIS, featuring experienced Trade and Export mentors, market analysis, facilitated business matching and a dedicated Expo showcasing Australian technology to Asia Pacific buyers across the region.

The Summit also features the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Awards, with 23 top Australian technology innovators taking on the best of the region across 16 categories. Australian competitors have each taken out honours at the 2009 iAwards for excellence in application fields ranging from Finance to Security, Sustainability and Education.

Leading companies from across Asia Pacific will take them on, with the winners announced at the gala dinner on 17 December.

APDIS will be one of the highest profile events held in the Asia Pacific this year and affords the Australian ICT industry a great chance to promote our capabilities to our regional neighbours.
