NSW Green IT Special Interest Group

The NSW Green IT Special Interest Group (SIG) has been established to assist people in AIIA member companies to:

  • identify the major business opportunities and constraints associated with the sale and purchase of ICT hardware and software
  • understand buyers’ buying strategies in terms of reducing their carbon footprint
  • develop appreciation of national and global development of environmental laws
  • develop opportunities for early engagement with NSW Government agencies on environment sustainability
  • promote their capabilities in sustainable ICT solutions and services
  • create a shared forum for ICT organisations with interests in climate change and economic and environmental sustainability.

Who participates?

People from industry participating in this SIG are senior executives, account and sales managers, BDMs, business analysts, consultants and lawyers.

ICT and the issue of the state of the planet’s environment

ICT powers an ‘always on’ world. And while the benefits of technology are far-reaching, the amount of energy required to keep our technological devices functioning increases each year.

Similarly, lower production costs and rapid technological advances mean that consumers and businesses upgrade products more frequently, creating new recycling challenges.

Nonetheless, the ICT industry has the potential to be a major part of the solution to our environmental challenges.

AIIA, the environment and sustainability

A sustainable environment is a key driver for many governments and plays an important role in their policy development. Increasingly the ICT industry’s customers are seeking to reduce their environmental impact.

AIIA recognises that our industry is at the forefront of new technologies, providing us with opportunities to develop energy-efficient products and minimise our environmental footprint. It is important that AIIA leads developments in this critical area.
