CEO of Defence SA & SA Space Industry Centre (SA Govt)

Richard Price was appointed Defence SA Chief Executive in October 2017. In this role, he was simultaneously appointed to the position of Chief Executive of the South Australian Space Industry Centre (SASIC).

Richard has worked within the defence and public safety sectors for over 25 years and has international industry experience in leadership, business development and engineering.

Prior to joining Defence SA and SASIC, Richard led a Stockholm based business unit for Saab AB with operations in Sweden, Denmark, Australia, South Africa and the UK. The focus was the global market for communication and control room solutions.

Before moving to Sweden in 2013, Richard was Managing Director of Saab’s Australian operations.

Richard is an engineering graduate of the University of Wales (BSc Hons, 1985) and a graduate of the Melbourne Business School Advanced Management Program (2006) and the Australian Institute of Company Directors (2010).

Richard is the Chair of Autism SA who help each person on the autism spectrum live the life they choose in an inclusive society.

BAE Systems

Brett Hales is the Head of Information, Management & Technology (IM&T) for the ASC Shipbuilding subsidiary of BAE Systems Australia and has over 20 years’ experience within Defence. In this role, Brett is responsible for leading the ICT function of the Hunter Class Frigate programme with a focus on strategy, culture, operational services and cyber security. Brett is a proven leader with the ability to motivate and develop high-performing teams to deliver results. Examples of this include the customer serviced focused transformation of ICT services in a cost pressure environment. Prior to his appointment in September 2018 he was the Head of IM&T for the BAE Systems Australia business.

Naval Group

James Inge is the ICT Strategy & Governance Manager at Naval Group Australia. He is developing the roadmap for the transfer of ICT capability from Naval Group France that is component of Australia developing the sovereign expertise to design and build submarines.

During his 20+ year career he has spent over half of that time working in Defence in a diverse range of roles. That range includes 2 years in the UK as an Information Management Leader, an Enterprise Architect, and Program Manager with oversight of a portfolio of Defence projects and leadership of a global product business in the cyber sector.

James always has side project and he is currently learning French. He is a keen lacrosse fan, having played in two world championships representing Australia, and lives with his marathon running embryologist wife and two lacrosse mad children in Adelaide, South Australia.

ASC

Gavin Hamilton holds the roles of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at ASC Pty Ltd. With over 26 years of experience at ASC he has spent time in a variety of roles spanning both technical and management functions across different functional areas including Engineering, Integrated Logistics Support, and Project Management. He is currently responsible for ASC’s information technology department including cybersecurity. He has also previously worked for Telecom Australia (now Telstra) and a computer software and services company specialising in the Logistics and Warehousing sector. He graduated in 1986 from the University of Adelaide with a Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences and in 2012 completed a Master of Engineering (Military Systems Integration) from the University of South Australia.
