The Strawberry Cyber Safety Project
Junior Students - SA
I am known on YouTube as StrawberryUnicornCat. I like to draw and create art in my videos. I enjoy watching other people create art and wanted to share my creations online. My parents would not let me do this because they didn't want my identity visible online. Due to this reason, I created the StrawberryUnicornCat Cyber Safety Guidelines. I haven't seen examples of children showing children how to be safe online. This is how my project is innovative. A kid using technology to show other kids how to publish their videos safely. This project has the potential of making a difference to other children. My project is a website, videos and guidelines to help other children who produce videos protect their privacy online. My innovation teaches kids how to create a channel in a safe way, so they can express online what interests them.

Murray Bridge High School
SMART Student Movement Augmented Reality Timetable
Senior Students - SA
SMART is an educational guidance tool that helps students find their way to a desired location and provides information based on the location. It is designed to scan the environment and give information based on the surroundings, for example; a class room would show the class list for the day, including the classes and the teachers, and also show a model of the teacher that is in the room. It has a unique purpose to aid students navigating their school though the world they see, which is a user-friendly method compared to top-down GPS positioning on their mobile phones. Adaptability is a leading factor as the use is not just limited to the educational market, but to the commercial market as well, for example; wildlife parks for navigation and information, or libraries for finding books, which can further expand market opportunities.

Automated Hip Fracture Detection
Undergraduate Tertiary Students - SA
William Gale developed an automated machine learning system (based on Deep Learning) to detect hip fractures from frontal pelvis x-rays, which is an important and common radiological task. The system was modelled with 53,000 clinical x-rays (representing a decade of scans from the Royal Adelaide Hospital) and can be applied to clinical data, automatically excluding inappropriate and technically unsatisfactory studies. The Automated Hip Fracture Detection system demonstrates diagnostic performance that matches or even exceeds the performance of human radiologists – making it the first large-scale method to reach such performance on a clinical radiological task. Further to this, a new method of interpreting the predictions of deep learning-based classifiers has been well received by doctors. Translated to clinical practice, such a system has the potential to increase the efficiency of diagnosis, reduce the need for expensive additional testing, expand access to “expert-level” medical image interpretation, and improve overall patient outcomes.
