AIIA QLD iAwards showcases excellence in Australian innovation

Brisbane, Australia – 21 June 2018 -- The Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA), the nation’s peak industry body for the technology sector, has today announced the Queensland iAwards winners for 2018. AIIA’s iAwards, now celebrating 25 years, is Australia’s leading awards program for innovation in the digital economy.

Awards were presented in categories comprising Business Service Markets, Community Service Markets, Consumer Markets, Industrial & Primary Industries, Infrastructure & Platforms, Public Sector & Government, Research & Development, Startups, Students, and the Queensland Premier’s iAward for Public Sector Innovation.

Minister for Innovation, Kate Jones, presented the Australian eHealth Research Centre (AEHRC) & CSIRO with the Queensland Premier’s iAward for Public Sector Innovation at tonight’s gala event, and congratulated the winners and merit recipients across all categories.

“The Palaszczuk Government is proud to support the iAwards, which for the past 25 years have recognised excellence in innovation,” she said.

“The awards highlight the best in technology and recognise how technology has a positive impact on people - through their work, their lives and through the provision of services.”

Rob Fitzpatrick, AIIA CEO, said the 2018 finalists added to the iAwards’ legacy of recognising the important work being done in Australian innovation.

"AIIA would like to congratulate the winners and merit recipients of the 2018 Queensland iAwards.

"Each year the iAwards publicly recognise the exceptional achievements of those at the forefront of Australian innovation, and the projects shaping our modern economy. We're proud to provide a platform for, and encouragement to people prepared to bring an idea to life, enabled by technology. Whether they're in startups, the public sector, community services, academia, or private enterprise, small and large, the work of the finalists is an inspiration to us all," he said.

Winners and merit recipients across all categories will go on to represent Queensland and compete at the National iAwards. National winners will be announced on 30 August 2018 at the prestigious National iAwards Gala Dinner and Ceremony, held in Melbourne, which will be attended by startups, innovators, investors, business and community leaders, and federal and state politicians.

Brief descriptions of winner and merit recipient projects:

3D Visualisation & Mixed Reality

The Digital Information Services branch's innovative approach to using 3D, Augmentation and Virtual Reality capabilities is improving service delivery across council and to the community. By leading a partnership with an external vendor to develop a market-first SaaS 3D Visualisation solution, they went on to integrate Mixed Reality capabilities to provide council with detailed, accurate and realistic visualisation experiences.

Codebots Platform

Codebots is a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS). Put simply, Codebots is code that writes code. By utilising artificial intelligence, domain specific languages, model driven engineering and the scientific business model, Codebots can write, on average, 92% of a software application's code. It’s most popular bot, Lampbot, can write 300,000 lines of code in a minute.

Cryptoloc Encryption Algorithm

Your Digital File (YDF) provides the safest solution for individual users to 'store' and 'share' important/critical/confidential information. It allows individuals to store critical personal and business information, which facilitates personal and business resilience, safety from ID theft, and cybercrime. YDF is powered by Cryptoloc, a patented data encryption engine.

HALO (Health and Aviation Logistics Online) is an Aeromedical Patient Transfer Record application, which enables clinical information to be documented electronically by flight nurses/medical officers, whilst providing in-flight care to aeromedical patients. It replaces the current, manual process of documenting clinical results on A3-sized paper records.

Hands Free Hydration

Hands Free Hydration is an innovation that will encourage everyone to drink more water! The Hands Free Hydration kit is a unique idea because it provides sensor driven water and can be retrofitted to existing bubblers. The team intend to make the kit from an Arduino microprocessor, a solenoid valve, an ultrasonic sensor and a breadboard. This kit can be added to existing bubblers, is cost effective, and it’s easy to use.

Hovermap is a drone autonomy and 3D lidar mapping payload, which allows a drone to detect and avoid collisions, navigate in GPS-denied environments, build accurate 3D maps, and perform autonomous beyond line-of-sight missions. This enables a drone to fly autonomously in an underground mine to map inaccessible areas, improving safety and providing valuable data that is otherwise impossible to collect.

Invisible Accountant, The

Small businesses don’t have easy access to the information they need to make good decisions. The Invisible Accountant automates the delivery of management reports to business owners, making it so easy and affordable, everyone can use it. Sign up, connect to your accounts and reports are delivered to your inbox every month with no more effort.

mobile-Pulmonary Rehabilitation Platform (m-PR)

The mobile-Pulmonary Rehabilitation (mPR) platform is a novel smartphone and internet-based interactive solution, supporting patients with chronic lung conditions during their Pulmonary Rehabilitation (PR). By bringing mobile health technology to this population, the team are improving the access to PR services, enhancing equality in care delivery in the public health sector and reducing hospitalisations and healthcare costs.

Osler Clinical Portfolio

The Osler Clinical Portfolio provides health care professionals with a platform to help them identify and measure their strengths and weaknesses to improve their training and education. The platform focuses attention to where it is most effective, and aggregates performance data so the individual has control of their self-development needs.

PD-Buddy: Support for Peritoneal Dialysis Patients

PD-Buddy is a novel smartphone and internet-based interactive system. It accompanies and guides peritoneal dialysis patients through every step of their dialysis treatment by monitoring health measures (including fluid exchanges), providing educational multimedia, and assisting in their appointment scheduling and medication management. It also supports multidisciplinary care delivery by providing shared access to patient information to the entire care team.

Queensland Government MyAccount

Queenslanders want their interactions with Government to be personalised and joined up. In response, MyAccount delivered one place to get easy access to services based on their personal attributes e.g. age, location. This includes transactions, renewal reminders, tracking applications, discounts, localised services and concessions from across Government. It’s a government first and the start of broader transformation.

StudentCafe Plus

Many private schools use TASS for data management, which provides students with access to relevant individual data including timetables, excursions, assessment dates, results, etc. No mobile interface is provided by TASS, only a web interface that is not mobile responsive. Students at Villanova College looked at how they could create an app for iOS and Android that linked to the individual school URL, retained the login information to enable quick logins, and stripped the relevant information from the HTML pages to display in a more accessible way.

V2i Realtime

V2i Realtime enables a more effective virtual collaboration in digital 3D spaces through an easy-to-use visual representation of complex information, including immersive VR environments that activate spatial memory and a sense of scale and presence. V2i Realtime features innovative design simulation and business-oriented analysis tools to transform the way development professionals and consultant teams achieve outcomes and add value.
